Tool and Plant Theft

Current estimates say that construction tool and plant theft is costing UK businesses up to £1.5million each week and this is predicted to rise. The construction industry estimates that plant is stolen every year to the value of £70million.

To try and reduce this as much as possible we at Fraser Tool Hire have one or two things in our arsenal. First, JCB Livelink. Livelink is fitted to all our new purchases from Scot JCB, not only does it provide us with telematic information i.e. fuel consumption, utilisation and service information, but it also allows us to pinpoint any machine with it fitted.

For all other machines we use a M-track unit supplied by Automatrics. These are small, self-contained, non-descript units that can be fitted anywhere on a machine. Requiring no external power source, they can be fitted to an item of plant without an engine or battery. Over the years Automatics have been successful in recovering stolen items on behalf of Fraser Tool Hire. The latest recovery was of a set of Temporary Traffic Lights on hire to South Lanarkshire Council. On being advised of the theft Automatrics set about finding the units and help Police Scotland recover a stolen van too!

Fraser Tool Hire makes milestone purchase

Fraser Tool Hire is delighted to have taken delivery of its 200th JCB excavator, to the Hamilton Head Office.

The machine – an 86C-2 midi excavator – joins more than 150 JCB excavators in the company’s current fleet.

Boasting models ranging from micro excavators to 10-tonne midi excavators, Fraser Tool Hire has invested over £8 million in JCB excavators since being founded in 1983, all supplied by Scot JCB.

MD, Colin Fraser, explained “Fraser Tool Hire would not be in business today if we did not have the solid customer base we have. Providing the right equipment at the right price, in the right condition, maintains repeat business. With our extensive fleet of JCB machines, along with the sterling back-up from Scot JCB, we can provide the service our customers expect.”

“With JCB being a household name and industry accepted, given the diverse range, we have the confidence to purchase, knowing our customers will be satisfied and happy with what we deliver to site.”

JCB’s 8-10 tonne midi excavator models have been updated to meet the forthcoming EU Stage V emissions regulations.

The Dash-2 machines, including the 86C-2 model, are said to benefit from a host of improvements. Key features include: a Stage V-compliant JCB By Kohler diesel engine; new electro proportional control joysticks; programmable high and low flow hydraulics; and improved front windscreen visibility.

JCB said power outputs are unchanged and engine auto-stop and a one-touch idle feature have been added as standard to reduce fuel consumption and cut emissions.

Not Just Plant in February…

Its not just items of plant we invest in, below are some of the 49 items of new equipment that we put into our hire fleet in February!

Well we are Fraser Tool Hire after all!

On Monday (27/2/17) we were alerted to the possibility that one of our 3T Excavators had been stolen. After some initial investigation it began to look that indeed the machine wasn’t where it was meant to be. Fortunately the machine had a tracking device supplied by Automatrics. Once we contacted Automatrics, they put the unit into alarm and a short time later we obtained a GPS location. The machine was found by Lanarkshire Division Officers hidden in a field behind a building. It is fair to say that without this fantastic piece of technology, we would have not recovered the machine. Many thanks to both Automatrics and all of the Lanarkshire Division Officers concerned! We have further been advised that unfortunately we weren’t the only company targeted. One other machine stolen had a different tracking device fitted which was found and disabled by the thieves.  Attempts were made to find a tracking device on our machine as it was recovered with panels ripped off, damage to the control pods and damaged wiring. As the Automatrics unit is covert the thieves failed to locate it and as such we got the machine back!

*Given the ongoing police investigation and covert nature of the tracking device some details have been withheld.

March continues where February left off…
